Our Lady of Fatima took its name in honor of the <\/span><\/h4>\n

apparitions of the <\/span>Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, <\/span><\/h4>\n

who came to ask for conversion of sinners, <\/span>reparation <\/span><\/h4>\n

of sins, and total obedience and devotion to God.<\/span><\/h4>\n

As She came as the Lady of the Rosary, you may at any <\/span><\/h4>\n

given time come <\/span>through\u00a0<\/span>our doors and find one or more<\/h4>\n

parishioners on their knees praying the rosary\u00a0before <\/span><\/h4>\n

the <\/span>Sacred Heart of Jesus and <\/span><\/h4>\n

History<\/span><\/h3>

Our Lady of Fatima Church was originally located<\/h4>\n

on the corner of Broad and Meeting Street in<\/h4>\n

Cumberland, Rhode Island. Known as the first<\/h4>\n

congregation in all of the United States to have<\/h4>\n

Our Lady with the title Fatima as its Patroness,<\/h4>\n

this church brought together the Portuguese that<\/h4>\n

had traveled from all over the world and settled in<\/h4>\n

northern Rhode Island. However, on the morning<\/h4>\n

of December 31, 1962, a fire swept through the<\/h4>\n

church leaving the community with just a pile of<\/h4>\n

rubble and a major setback.<\/h4>\n

Yet, through all the sadness and uncertainty,<\/h4>\n

it was decided by the Pastor, Reverend, and<\/h4>\n

Bishop on a midsummer\u2019s day in 1964 that<\/h4>\n

Our Lady of Fatima Church was going to be<\/h4>\n

rebuilt. June 24, 1965 marked the church\u2019s<\/h4>\n

rebirth with the official ground breaking<\/h4>\n

ceremony, and it wasn\u2019t before long that<\/h4>\n

Reverend Jose P. Barbosa<\/h4>\n

was holding mass in the new (and current) parish.<\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
